Code 128 Introduction

Code 128 which is also known as ANSI/AIM 128, ANSI/AIM Code 128, USS Code 128, Uniform Symbology Specification Code 128, is a linear barcode symbology capable of encoding the standard ASCII characters set and extended ASCII characters. It is a high-density alphanumeric code promoted in 1981. Just like other 1D barcode, code 128 consists of a starting quiet zone, a start code, data, checksum, a stop code and a trailing quiet zone. According to different encoded data from ASCII value, Code 128 can be divided into Code 128A, Code 128B and Code 128C.
Code 128 Barcode Generation for Word Using Barcode Word Add-in
If the barcode add-in is not installed in Word, be sure to install it on the system first.
  • Open a Word document, the add-in tool bar will display in the "Add-Ins" tab.
  • Click the "Create Barcode", the barcode control panel is in the right of the document.
  • In the "barcode type", please select Code 128, and input data.
  • Click "Generate" button, a Code 128 is generated in Word spreadsheet.
  • Change data and parameters to make specific Code 128, and click "Update" to make new Code 128. If users want to remove Code 39, just click "Delete" or using cancel key to delete barcodes.

Creating Mailings in Word with Code 128

With the following steps, Code 128 Word add-in encodes mail merge fields directly in the barcode.
  • Install Code 128 Word add-in and open a new Word document.
  • Click "Mailings" tab and select or create a recipient list.
  • Switch to "Add-Ins" tab, open the barcode control panel, and type Code 128 data and other parameters to make a unique barcode.
  • In the "Mailings", please go to "Finish &Merge" button and choose to edit, print or send document with Code 128 barcode encoded.

Create Code 128 Labels in Word with Word Add-In

Microsoft Word`s mail merge wizard can also be used to create barcode labels which means a batch of same Code 128 barcodes can be created in one time.
  • Activate "Mailings" tab, go to "Start Mail Merge" and select "Labels...". In the popped up dialog, users can select different label sizes.
  • Select or create a recipient list.
  • Switch to "Add-Ins" tab, open the barcode control panel, and type the Code 128 data and other parameters to make a unique barcode. The barcode is showed on the first cell of the table.
  • Switch back to "Mailings", go to "Insert Merge Field" and click "Update Labels". This automatically inserts the content from the first cell into all other cells.
  • Click "Finish & Merge" to finish the creation.
